Kulture, Typeface Design
-
Kulture is a modern serif typeface that I initially designed as a personal project. What started as an experiment eventually became a deeper exploration of type design and the details that give letterforms their character.
-
The letterforms were inspired by a small tea shop just outside Ely in Cambridgeshire. The name Kulture came from the idea that each letter has its own personality, much like people do. The "K" was also a small personal touch.
-
Two years after the initial design, I revisited the typeface with fresh eyes. Through a series of refinements and subtle adjustments, I developed it into a more complete and considered typeface while preserving the character that inspired it in the first place.
